1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: ACTIVITY AT THE COMPLEX SUGGESTS THAT
TESTING 0 A US-BUILT BEECHCRAFT MODEL-1089 DRONE AS A
TARGET VEHICLE OR, IN A POSSIBLY MODIFIED ROLE, AS A CRUISE -
MISSILE MAY TAKE PLACE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: PREPARATIONS FOR THE LAUNCH OF A DRONE ARE IN
PROGRESS AT HE CRUISE MISSILE LAUNCH PAD. SINCE
A U.S.-BUILT BEECHCRAFT MODEL-1089 DRONE ON A
LAUNCHER, THREE SUPPORT VEHICLES AND AN UNIDENTIFIED PIECE OF
EQUIPMENT HAVE ARRIVED AT THE LAUNCH PAD. IN ADDITION, A VEGA
TRACKING AND GUIDANCE RADAR FOR THE MODEL-1089 DRONE IS PRESENT
(NOT ON GRAPHIC). AN ENVIRONMENTAL COVER REMAINS OVER THE
CRUISE MISSILE LAUNCH RAIL. THREE HELICOPTERS, 13 BUSES, AND
NUMEROUS TRUCKS ARE IN THE ADMINISTRATION/HOUSING SUPPORT AREA
(NOT ON GRAPHIC).
(S/D) THE ONLY OTHER VEHICLE KNOWN TO BE TESTED HERE WAS THE
DRONE BEE NAVAL CRUISE MISSILE, THE TAIWANESE VERSION OF AN
ISRAELI CRUISE MISSILE (GABRIEL). PREPARATIONS FOR THE LAST
TEST INVOLVING THE DRONE BEE WERE OBSERVED DURING JULY AND
AUGUST 1981.
