IN THE DEZFUL-SIiUSH AREA
2. (S/D) REMARKS: A4AJOR ELEMENTS OF AN IRAQI ARMORED DIVISION
HAVE AD LED APPROXIP?1ATELY 1 NM EASTWARD ALONG A 15 NM FRONT
FROM 3L-10-OUN 48-11-OOE TO ~2-02-OON 048-00-OOE. SOr1E LEAD

ELEMENTS OF THE IRAQI FORCES ARE CONSTRUCTING VEHICLE
REVETMENTS INDICATING THAT CONSOLIDATION OF THE FOR[~ARD AREAS
IS IN PROGRESS. SEVERAL IRAQI POSITIONS ARE UNDER FIRE.
NUMEROUS ARTILLERY SHELLS ARE IMPACTING THROUGHOUT THE IRANIAN
DEFEI~ISIVE POSITIONS; HOWEVER, IRArIIArd FORCES REMAIN DEPLOYED

IIJCL'UDE TWO ARMORED BRIGADES (BDE) AND ONE PROBABLE MECHANIZED
(MECI-I) INFANTRY (INF) BDE. THE ADVAIICE OF ONE OF THE ARMORED
BDE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN STOPPED IN FRONT OF THE IRANIAN
PUSITIOIVS AT 32-03-OOi~ 048-01-OOE. AT LEAST 25 IRAQI ARMORED
VEiIICLES HAVE BEEN DESTROYED. ELEMENTS OF THE OTHER ARMORED
BDE AND ELEMENTS OF THE PROBABLE I~iECH INF BDE ARE STILL
PRESSING THE ATTACK. IRANIAN FORCES UNDER ATTACK INCLUDE MAJOR
ELEMENTS OF A COMBINED ARMORED BDE (CONTAINING AT LEAST T~10
TANK BATTALIONS). ALSO, A HIGH LEVEL OF ACTIVITY IS OBSERVED
IN 1'HE REAR AREAS OF BOTH FORCES. NUMEROUS ADDITIONAL COMBAT
AND SUPPORT UNITS REMAIN DEPLOYED IN PREVIOUSLY OCCUPIED
DEFENSIVE POSITIONS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FORWARD EDGE OF THE
BATTLE AREA.
