1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: THE SOVIET UNION HAS LAUNCHED THEIR FOURTH
GUIDED MISSILE A RCRAFT CARRIER (CVHG).
2. (S/D) REMARKS: THE 444D GUIDED MISSILE AIRCRAFT CARRIER
(CVHG). FORMERLY KIEV CVHG UNIT 4, HAS BEEN LAUNCHED
AND IS FITTING OUT AT THE QUAY AT NIKOLAYEV SHIPYARD
0 0 . SUPERSTRUCTURE MODIFICATIONS, AND A SIGNIFICANT
NUMBER OF WEAPONS AND ELECTRONICS MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN
OBSERVED ON THIS UNIT DURING CONSTRUCTION. SEVERAL FEATURES,
NOT DISCERNIBLE PREVIOUSLY, ARE OBSERVED. A BLAST DEFLECTOR,
SIMILAR TO THE SS-N-12 BLAST DEFLECTOR ON OTHER KIEV-CLASS
CVHG, IS INSTALLED ON THE PORT SIDE NEXT TO THE 100MM GUN
MOUNTS. ALTHOUGH NO SS-N-12 LAUNCHERS ARE OBSERVED, THE
PRESENCE OF THE TRAP DOOR RADAR OPENING IN THE BOW AND THE
BLAST DEFLECTOR UGGE THAT THE SS-N-12 SYSTEM WILL BE
INSTALLED. RADAR PLATFORM HAS BEEN INSTALLED ATOP
THE SUPERSTRUCTURE FORWARD OF THE STACK. THE SPONSON AREA
FORWARD OF THE ANGLED DECK HAS NOT BEEN INSTALLED ON THIS UNIT.
