1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: AIRFIELD MODIFICATIONS WILL PROVIDE HIGH
PERFORMANCE AIRCRAFT THE CAPABILITY TO TAKE-OFF DIRECTLY FROM
THE DISPERSAL PARKING AREA.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: A HIGH SPEED TAXIWAY/RUNWAY IS IN THE LATE
STAGES OF CONSTRUCTION AT KAWAMA AIRFIELD
PRELIMINARY MENSURATION INDICATES THE TAXIWAY/RUNWAY IS
APPROXIMATELY 1770 METERS LONG. CONSTRUCTION OF BOTH THE
TAXIWAY/RUNWAY AND THE AIRCRAFT DISPERSAL PARKING AREA BEGAN IN
JULY 1981.
KAWAMA AIRFIELD, 75 NM EAST OF HAVANA, IS A REGIONAL CIVIL
AIRFIELD AND IS PROBABLY USED AS AN AUXILIARY MILITARY AIRFIELD.
