1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: THE NEW CHINESE SPACE LAUNCH VEHICLE, LONG
MARCH 3, TIFIED AT SONGLIN SPACE LAUNCH SITE A FOR THE
FIRST TIME.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: THE THREE-STAGE SPACE LAUNCH SERVICE GANTRY
ARMS ARE RETRACTED. THE FIRST STAGE. nF TNF
LAUNCH VEHICLE WAS BEING POSITIONED AT THE MISSILE SERVICE
TOWER. THE SERVICE GANTRY ARMS
WERE CL , AND IDENTIFICATION OF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT
POSSIBLE. THE PRESENCE OF THE LONG MARCH 3 ON THE PAD IS
PROBABLY A CONTINUATION OF COMPATABILITY TESTING OF MISSILE
EQUIPMENT AND THE LAUNCH FACILITY THAT HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE
THE COMPLETION OF THE LAUNCH SITE IN LATE FEBRUARY 1982.
(S/D) THE SONGLIN SPACE LAUNCH COMPLEX HAS BEEN UNDER
CONSTRUCTION SINCE 1971. ITS RELATIVE SOUTHERN LOCATION
INDICATES THAT GEOSYNCHRONOUS SATELLITES WILL BE LAUNCHED FROM
HERE USING THE LONG MARCH 3, A THREE-STAGE DERIVATIVE OF THE
TWO-STAGE CSL-2.
