FBIS-BBC
This schedule indicates the DAYS TRANSMITTED
and the COVERAGE DAYS, the days of transmission
which have been scheduled for monitoring, by the use
of initials of the days of the week, with certain
exceptions. The word "daily" is substituted for trans-
missions and coverage expected every day. The word
"note" indicates a complex schedule which is ex-
plained in the NOTES column and the abbreviation
"irreg" denotes transmission or coverage on a random
basis. The days of coverage are shown as irregular for
all priority 3 and backstop coverage.
The INDEX OF INPUT shows the average number
of minutes per week of regular coverage available to
FBIS.
The USUAL MONITORABILITY is indicated by
the terms "good," "fair," "poor," or "nil."
The PRIORITY shows the relative certainty and
speed of processing given to the coverage under
normal circumstances. Bureaus may override priorities
during emergencies. The priority is indicated by a
numeral:
1. (Preferred Coverage)-This coverage takes pre-
cedence over all work. Field bureaus process this
coverage as soon as possible after intercept or receipt.
The bureaus do not drop such coverage without the
concurrence of Headquarters unless arrangements
have been made for alternate coverage.
2. (Standard Coverage)-The bureaus process this
coverage on a reasonably current basis-usually within
24 hours of receipt.
3. (Contingent or Nominal Coverage)-The bureaus
process this coverage irregularly, as staffing and other
considerations allow or as ad hoc projects require.
The bureaus assign the same priorities to backstop
coverage as to primary coverage but they monitor the
backstops only when the originals are missed or
unmonitorable.
The PURPOSE OF COVERAGE is indicated by an
alphabetical symbol:
A-general coverage producing a substantial
volume of material for the Daily Report or the FBIS
Wire
C-coverage from a unique source which pro-
duces a limited volume of publishable wordage
E-coverage monitored primarily for reports
on economics
J-coverage taken primarily for use in the
publications of the Production Group
L-coverage monitored primarily to serve la-
teral recepients
M-coverage taken primarily to meet the re-
quirements of a monitoring service allied with FBIS
V-coverage monitored principally for the pre-
paration of video selection lists
Multiple sourcelines head any coverage to which
two or more sourcelines are applicable, with the
principal sourceline listed first. Those broadcasts, press
agency transmissions, and publications which do not
announce their true countries of origin are grouped
into "Clandestine" sections.
ELECTRONIC COVERAGE
This schedule arranges the sourcelines within each
country section in the following order:
international broadcasts from the chief broad-
casting city and then from other cities in
alphabetical order
domestic radio and television broadcasts from
the chief broadcasting city and then from other
cities in alphabetical order
international presscasts
domestic presscasts from the principal com-
mercial center and then from other cities in
alphabetical order
Within each of these groups official transmissions
precede semi-official and private ones, national ser-
vices precede regional services, and network broad-
casts precede local separations. Otherwise sourcelines
are arranged in alphabetical order of language when-
ever the principal difference among them is the
language.
CONTENT OF THE ELECTRONIC COVERAGE
COLUMNS
The TIMES are expressed in Greenwich Mean Time
(EST + 5 hours or EDT + 4 hours) and they show the
nominal starting time and the ending time for each
item of coverage. "0000" stands for the first moment
of the GMT day and "2400" the last moment. If a cast
does not adhere to a fixed schedule, the listing shows
the nominal starting time followed by an ending time
chosen to show the usual duration of the cast. The
bureaus sustain intercept and recording as long as is
necessary to monitor the entire cast. The broadcasts
under each sourceline are arranged so that the earliest
coverage of the local broadcast day is listed first.
Listings for press transmissions start with the agency's
first cast of the transmission day.

The NOTES include the type of program and may
also include the name of the program, the transmission
service in which it appears, the target, irregularities of
scheduling, etc.
PUBLICATIONS COVERAGE
Under each country the publications from the na-
tional capital are listed first and are followed by those
from other cities in alphabetical order. Those from
any given city are arranged in alphabetical order of
the publications' standardized titles, definite ariticles
included when FBIS uses them. Titles are not translat-
ed but they are transliterated whenever the originals
use other than the Roman alphabet.

The LAG IN RECEIPT is self-explanatory.
