Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/07/18: CIA-RDP89-00955R000100010024-0 CONFIDENTIAL OTE 85-4006 22, APR 1985 M 4)RANDUM FOR: Deputy Director for Administration Director of Training and Education SUBJECT: Increase in Awards for Studies in Intelligence 1. This asks that you approve an increase of $3,500.00 in the funds currently available to the Director of Personnel to allot prizes to those authors whom the Editorial Board of'Studies in Intelligence deem have made a significant contribution to the literature of Intelligence in any given year. 2. The initial grant of $1,000.00 was approved in 1955. That amount was increased by $500.00 in 1981, making a total of $1,500.00 to be appor- tioned among four or more prize winners. Those sums are hardly meaningful in today's world and do not accord with other stipends awarded by the Agency. 3. With the $3,500:00 increase, a total of $5,000.00 will be'available to the Board. For the moment, the Board has decided only to attach a $2,000.00 stipend to The Sherman Kent Award -- the highest recognition it extends. The Chairman, with the approval of the members, will apportion the remaining $3,000.00 to the other prize winners.
