Approved For.$please 2002/05/07 : CIA-RDP89-01114100100010023-0 May 31, 1974 STATINTL STAT STATINTL The Central Intelligence Agency has forwarded to us a copy of your March 26, 1974, letter in which you seek employment with them at the conclusion of your Peace Corps employment. Just as the Peace Corps does not accept as staff members or Volunteers those people who have served with an intelligence agency, so the Peace Corps has asked, and the intelligence agencies have agreed, not to employ former Peace Corps employees or Volunteers for at least five years after the completion of their service in the Peace Corps, and, if employed after such period, not to assign the former staff member to any country in which he had trained or served with the Peace Corps. The Central Intelligence Agency is one of the agencies which has agreed not to employ a former staff member or Volunteer in any capacity prior to the completion of five years after his termination from the Peace Corps. I know that you, as an overseas Peace Corps employee, under- stand the reasoning behind this policy. As the Peace Corps has lost some talented people as staff members or Volunteers because of their background in intelligence work, so the intelligence agencies have lost the services of some able men and women who have previously served in the Peace Corps, but we believe that these sacrifices are justified by the public interest in preventing any relationship, or any appearance of a relationship, between the Peace Corps and intelligence agencies. Sincerely yours, Kelly C. Kartimerer Deputy General Counsel for International Operations cc: J Central Intelligence Aqency Approved For Release-2002/05/07 : CIA-RDP89-01114R000100010023-0
