Tplank you. Sincerely yours, STATINTL Approved For Release 2002/05/07 : CIA-RDP89-01114R000100010038-4 uu e For Rase 2002/05/07: CIA-RDP89-01114RW0100010038-4 July 28, 1972 STATINTL STAT STATINTL The Central Intelligence Agency has forwarded to us a copy of your recent letter in which you request a copy of the publication "Intelligence Professions." Just as the Peace Corps does not accept as volunteers or staff members those people who have served with an intelli- gence agency, so the Peace Corps has asked, and the intelli- gence agencies have agreed, not to employ former Peace Corps volunteers for at least four years after the comple- tion of their service in the Peace Corps, and, if employed after such period, not to assign the former volunteer to any country in which he had trained or served with the Peace Corps. The Central Intelligence Agency is one of the agencies which has agreed not to employ a former volunteer or staff member in any capacity for at least four years following termination of Peace Corps service. I know that you as a Peace Corps volunteer understand the reasoning behind this policy. As the Peace Corps has lost some talented people as volunteers or staff members because of their background in intelligence work, so the intelligence agencies have lost the services of some able men and women who have previously served in the Peace Corps, but we believe that these sacrifices are justified by the public interest in preventing any relationship, or any appearance of a relationship, between the Peace Corps and intelligence agencies.
