Request for Circuit Upgrade - FBIS Vienna
1. In response to refs B. and C., ref A. presented several options
that members of your Staff were pursuing to resolve longstanding FBIS
Vienna circuit difficulties. We have been in telephone contact recently
with your staff discussing these options in detail.
2. After a thorough review within FBIS, it is our belief that a
direct leased line connectivity between Vienna and Croughton RRF is the
way to go at this time. It is our understanding that the annual cost of
this circuitry is projected at 43K and it can be obtained approximately
90 days from the date of the order. We regret that OC-FND is no longer
in a position to share the costs of this circuitry, as discussed earlier,
but the lingering circuit problem is such that FBIS will fund the total
amount in order to improve communications at its Austrian Bureau.
3. FBIS is also interested in the International Direct Dial (IDD)
option as a means of providing alternate service during periods when the
normal leased circuit is inoperable.
4. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated in taking the
necessary steps to order up the Vienna-Croughton leased line, which we
plan to operate at the 300 bps level.
