+ A member of Vice President Bush's staff requested FBIS to provide
him with a brief analysis of a recent Pravda article criticizing the Vice
President for comments he had made about Te Soviet role in Middle East
peace efforts. The analysis, characterizing overall Soviet commentary on
the Middle East and describing the background of the author, was provided
and passed to the Vice President along with a copy of the Pravda article
to aid him in assessing the article's significance. (U/AI~-
+ Responding to high-level consumer interest, the FBIS
London Bureau expedited handling of Mu'ammar al-Qadhdhafi's televised
speech delivered on the occasion of the Great 1 September Revolution
anniversary. A satellite feed of the 3-hour address was arranged
through Visnews London, allowing analysts to view the videotapes the

+ On 2 September, FBIS used the Langley satellite dish to intercept
a relay of recorded excerpts from the Moscow press conference on arms
control transmitted over the Gorizont satellite. The excerpts, which
included answers from the Soviet Foreign Ministry spokesman to questions
from Western reporters about the detention of U.S. News and World Report
correspondent Nicholas Daniloff, were fed to Headquarters consumers over
the Langley TV grid. (U/AIUO)
