SUBJECT: Breakfast with Deputy Secretary of Defense Taft
The following subjects were discussed at the breakfast.
1. There was considerable discussion about the coup attempt in
the Philippines.
4. I also described to him the key judgments of our estimates
on the Persian Gulf and Pakistan's reaction to U.S.
on Nicaragua that will be addressed by NFIB today.
3. We discussed the situation in Central America and I
foreshadowed to him the judgments of the National Estimate
sanctions as a result of the nuclear program.
7. We discussed Panama and the need to move with some care.
9. He described to me a very useful briefing he had been given
by who is a specialist on Iraq and who had
just returned from there following extensive travels
throughout the country. I indicated that it might be
interesting for some of our people to talk to her and he
will pass the name and telephone number to us.
