Request to Speak
1. I request permission to present three lectures at the
Institute of Economics, Nankai University, Tianjin, China. I
will attend the fourth session of the U.S.-China Joint Economic
Committee in Beijing on 19-21 March and have been invited to
return to Nankai for the last week in March and the first week in
April to continue lectures on and discussions of the index number
problems and measurement of real growth that I started in
September 1983.
2. The first lecture (see notes under Tab A) is an
elaboration of material discussed in September. The second
lecture is based on an article I wrote for The China Quarterly
(see Tab B). The third lecture is based on the first incomplete
draft of a paper that I presented at a conference in Hong Kong in
September 1983 (see Tab C).
3. None of the material present in the manuscript is, to my
knowledge, classified.
4.I I will be identified as an Agency
employee but will append the standard disclaimer indicating that
the views expressed are my own and not necessarily those of the
Agency.
