Request for One-Year Extension of Military

1. Paragraph 4 of this memorandum contains a recommendation
for your approval.
2. It is requested that the current reimbursable detail to
the Agency of US Army, be STAT
extended for an additional year. The assignment will remain
overt in nature. EOD 31 October 1983 for a STAT
one-year tour of duty with the option to extend for an additional
year. Informal contact with the Army indicates that this
extension would be acceptable to them.
3.I duties will continue as a senior
analyst in the Insurgency Branch of OGI's Instability and
STAT
Insurgency Center. During his first six months with this branch,
has made a rapid adjustment and a considerable STAT
contribution in three important areas: as an instructor in
branch training courses, as a consultant on military strategic
and tactical issues, and as project officer for a major research
paper concerning the application of technology to insurgent
warfare.
4. We do not believe one year offers enough time for
to complete the complex research project to STAT
which he has been' assigned and is personally committed. We
therefore recommend approval be granted for a one-year extension
