The requirement for this indicator rises from the need to have a definite identification of the oblique position of the camera at which each exposure is taken for ease in photo interpretation. One (1) Oblique Position Indicator will be required for each Model 73-B Camera. It will be mounted on the inside surface of the bottom of the Platen Support Structure and will bracket the Data Recorder Assembly. An image that will indicate the obliq ue position of the camera will be projected onto each frame ? just outboard of the Counter and Clock data information on each film strip. The present area of the field of image will not be decreased. Each successive oblique position of the lens is in increments of 24? 30' from the vertical. These images will indicate the oblique position by marking the film as follows: 74 L (3rd left oblique) 49 L. (2nd left oblique) 25 L. (1st left oblique) V (vertical) 25 R (1st right oblique) 49 R (2nd right oblique) 74 R (3rd right oblique) The oblique position image to be projected will be brought into correct position by a gear arrangement actuated by movement of the Oblique Unit Assembly. One lamp will provide the necessary light for the images on both frames and will be actuated by the same pulse that actuates the clock and counter image. An Oblique Position Indicator Set will consist of two (2) indicator blocks, one (1) light chamber, and a gear drive assembly for each camera. It is proposed that one (1) Oblique Position Indicator Set for each of the sixteen (16) Cameras Model 73-B be added to the reference (a) contract. The price for the design and manufacture of the Oblique Position Indicator Set is $1, 250.00 each for a total contract price increase for sixteen (16) Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/09: CIA-RDP89B00487R000300490036-1 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/08/09: CIA-RDP89B00487R000300490036-1 units of $20, 000. 00. Unit Price Total Price Schedule 1. 10 1,250.00 12, 500.00 Schedule II 6 1,250.00 7,500.00 Delivery of all Oblique Position Indicator Sets will be made by 15 May 1957. These units will be designed to permit easy installation in cameras in the field and will be furnished as field modification kits for those cameras which are not modified in the factory. Camera Model 73-B, #1 is presently in the factory for Maintenance and Over haul. Serial #2 and #3 are expected to be returned for Maintenance and Overhaul in the near future. It is. anticipated that these three (3) units will have the Oblique Position Indicator Sets installed by the time they are ready for re-deployment. It is planned that Serial #11 will be the first unit to be delivered direct from production with the O.P.I. installed. Serial #4 is not available for modification. Serial #5, #6, #7, #8, #9 and #10 will be provided with field modification kits at the Detachments for their modification. It is estimated that the field modification of each Camera 73-B can be effected by our Field Service Engineers in approximately ten (10) hours. C Factory Maintenance and FAK spares for the Oblique Position Indicator will be. added as line items to Schedule III of the reference (a) contract. Configuration B System Handbooks will be revised to reflect this equip- ment modification. We trust that this proposal meets with your approval and request that we be given authorization to proceed with the manufacture of the Oblique Position Indicator. Very truly yours, HYCON MFG.
