SUBJECT: Status Report on CIPC Projects and Activities--October 1985
1. CIPC Meeting: The CIPC did not meet during October. The next meeting is
scheduled for 18 November. The rinci al a enda items are the narcotics
collectio ies for and candidate topics for CIPC
studies.
2. Narcotics Intelligence: The draft national narcotics collection
strategies for which have been coordinated with the CIPC
Narcotics Working Group, are being reviewed by CIPC principals in preparation for
the 18 November CIPC meeting. This report responds to concerns raised by the
NIO/Narcotics that there are significant gaps in the Community's coverage of
these two countries.
5. Soviet Ballistic Missile Defense: The DCI has approved the follow-up
report on Soviet Ballistic Missile Def ense. The report now is being prepared for
publication and should be at the printers in short order.

Status Report on CIPC Projects and Activities--October 1985
7. Critical Intelligence Needs: The Chairman, CIPC, has forwarded to the
CIPC members a consolidated list of potential critical intelligence problems
proposed by the CIPC members and staff. Background papers for each of the 22
topics were forwarded as well.
8. These topics will be addressed by the CIPC at its 18 November
meeting. Those deemed worthy of further consideration will be submitted to
the DCI for approval as critical intelligence problems.
