Bob was concerned that the need for additional resources be stressed. ? Attached for your information is a bio on Brig Gen Norm Wood, Maj Gen them the revised draft Terrorism Study. CIPC Organizational Activities ? We met with Charlie Allen and on 21 March and reviewed with ? George attended the monthly NIO/Narcotics Intelligence Forecast and Warning Meeting on 21 March. The following principal issues were discussed: Perroots deputy. Narcotics Intelligence: ? The warning meeting was attended by several representatives from the DIA (DC-1, DC-3, and one of General Goodman's executive assistants). The JCS study group on narcotics (see previous Weeklies) has not yet completed a final draft, but the DIA is clearly adopting a more positive and forthcoming attitude toward narcotics intelligence collection. NORMAN WOOD Brigadier General C. Norman Wood is. deputy director for the National Strategic Target List, Joint Strategic Target Planning Staff, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. General Wood was born March 7, 1938, in Dallas, Texas. He received a bachelor's degree in personnel management from the University of Texas and a master's degree in public administration from Auburn (Ala.) University. The general graduated from Squadron Officer School in 1964, and Air Command and Staff College in 1974, both located at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.; and the National War College at Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C., in 1979. general received his navigator wings in July 1961 and was assigned to Electronic Warfare Officer School at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. In July 1962 he began his flying career with the Strategic Air Command's 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing as an electronic warfare officer in RB-47s at Forbes Air Force Base, Kan. From August to November 1967, he was assigned to Detachment I, 3rd Air Division at Yokota Air Base, Japan, flying in RC-135s. The unit then moved to Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, becoming the 82nd Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron. General Wood _was an instructor electronic warfare officer on a crew with the squadron until February 1969.- During this time he logged more than 1,000 combat hours in Southeast Asia. Entering the Air Force in August 1960, General Wood received his commission upon graduation from Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, in November 1960. He then began Undergraduate Navigator Training at James Connally Air Force Base, Texas. The His primary flying duties ended in February 1969, when he was assigned to the 544th Aerospace Reconnaissance Technical Wing at Offutt Air Force Base. He served initially, on loan to SAC headquarters, as an intelligence watch officer in the Warning Center; later he became the Soviet offensive naval weapons analyst. In January 1970 he was assigned to SAC headquarters as chief, Current Intelligence Branch, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence. In April 1972 he was assigned to Saigon, Republic of Vietnam, as an action officer in the Plans, Training and Management Division, J-2, Headquarters Military Assistance Command, Vietnam. In July 1972, when 7th Air Force headquarters combined with the Military Assistance Command headquarters, General Wood became chief of the Defense Analysis Branch, J-2, Headquarters Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, with dual responsibilities as chief of the Operational Intelligence Division for 7th Air Force headquarters. He was responsible for analysis of surface to air missile, antiaircraft artillery and aircraft threats throughout Southeast Asia; as well as the daily current intelligence briefing for the 7th Air Force commander. Following his tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam, General Wood completed Air Command and Staff College as a distinguished graduate. He began an Air Staff tour of duty in 1974 as an action officer in the Coordinated Action Plans Division of the Directorate of Doctrine, Concepts, and Objectives. In this capacity he co-authored the military potential volume of the Air Staff study "New Horizons II" and was the Air Staff representative to Air Force Systems Command's analysis of the Air Force role in space. In October 1975 he became executive officer in the Office of Air Force History. General Wood graduated from the National War College in June 1979 and was subsequently assigned as deputy commander for operations, 544th Strategic Intelligence Wing. He took command of the wing in May 1980. From October 1981 to June 1982, the general served as assistant deputy chief of staff for intelligence at Strategic Air Command headquarters. He then became executive director of the president's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, The White House, Washington, D.C. He assumed his present duties in January 1984. The general is a master navigator with 3,400 flying hours and wears the missile and Presidential Service badges. His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Medal with nine oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters. He assumed the grade of brigadier general Oct. I, 1983. General Wood and his wife, the former Elizabeth Burwell Dillard of Dunnsville, Va., have one daughter, Elizabeth.
