MEMORANDUM FOR THE HONORABLE ROBERT M. GATES
Deputy Director of Central Intelligence;
SUBJECT: Assessment of the. Possibility of Sabotage of
U.S. Space and Missile Launch Vehicles (S)
Thank you for your memorandum summarizing the Intelligence Commu-
nity's findings regarding the possibility that our recent series
of launch failures might have been the result of sabotage. Our
space and missile launch vehicles provide critical support to a
variety of programs essential to our national security. I
appreciate the completeness of the Intelligence Community's
assessment which should finally put to rest any concerns that
sabotage might have been the cause of the failures. (S)
