3. The current backlog of requests is 226 secure telephones and 389 non-
secure telephones. This represents a six to seven month backlog of requests.
This backlog is unlikely to lessen since so many of OIT's telephone installa-
tion personnel are assign ed to the original Headquarters building secure PBX
work, PBX work, and will soon begin PBX installation in
the new Headquarters building.
LDAI 5. At an ADP Control Officers meeting on 10 August, the Deputy
Chief of OIT's Customer. Services Group, announced that the secure PBX work in
Headquarters is beginning to gain speed. Initial problems in the PBX and
installation procedures resulted in some significant start-up problems with
the first secure PBX systems. Those problems have been corrected and CONTEL,
OIT's contractor, is working hard to complete their Headquarters secure
telephone work by the end of the calendar year.
5. As OIT begins to wire the new Headquarters building PBX systems, the
pace of additions and modifications to existing telephone systems will slow
considerably. Thus it will be difficult for your office to get even the
highest priority telephone work done later this year.
