2. The MCI fiber optic system between Headquarters) Iwas
completed last week on schedule. The end-to-end performance far ezceeded the
contract specifications. The system has been turned over to Ford Aerospace
for the final installation and testing. MCI is now en a ed in the engMCleisng
of the alternate route which includes a connection
anticipating an activation date of 1 August 1987 for this system.
3. OC has arranged with the Ford Aerospace and Communications Corporation
to redesigi and fabricate the steel antenna used with the SKYLINR satellite
system. Ford plans to use aluminum to reduce the weight of the antenna by as
much as 290 pounds. This is a significant enhancement and is advantageous for
sheltered installations where roof loading is critical. Thel re will be no cost

5. The 14-year old Automated Communications Terminal (ACT) in the Message
Handling Facility was replaced on 18 January. The new system, known as ACT
Originating Replacement, processes messages originating in Headquarti ers. iNo
significant problems have been encountered with the new system.
6. The Office of Logistics (OL) reports that the contract for realignment
of Route 123 was formally awarded by the Commonwealth Transportation Board of
the Virginia Department of Transportation on 15 January 1987.
8. The Office of Finance reports that the Annual Leave and Compensatory
Time Forfeiture report for the 1986 Leave Year reflects a total of
hours of Annual Leave and hours of Compensatory Time forfeited by Agency
employees. This represents Annual Leave forfeited by employees and
Compensatory Time forfeited by ~ employees.
11. On 16 January, an Office of Security (OS) representative prow e a
compartmented security indoctrination to Mr. Frank Carlucci, the newly
appointed National Security Advisor.
13. OL reports that, with the acquisition of the entire first floor of the
Chamber of Commerce (C of C) Building completed, the General Services
Administration intends to incorporate the 9,953 square feet into the C of C
lease, effective 1 February.
