Gates Deputy Director for Intelligence SUBJECT: DDI Activity Report 18-22 March 1985 DCI/DDCI Assigned Tasks ALA provided a memorandum on Cuba's treatment of the press to the Office of Public Affairs for the DCI's speech to the National Press Club. Of Special Interest This Week ALA, NIO/LA, and Chief, Latin America Task Force, briefed the SSCI on Nicaragua. EURA hosted a one-day conference on the political and economic situation in Spain. NESA briefed Senator Danforth on arms sales to Saudi Arabia. OGI briefed John Lenczowski, NSC Staff, on the Soviet media presence in developing countries. Huber, Strategic Forces Policy; John Harvey, Strategic Arms Control Policy; T.K. Jones, Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Strategic and Theater Forces, and Brig. Gen. Elmer Brooks. OSWR completed its briefings to the DCI's Nuclear Intelligence Panel. Looking Ahead CPAS, ODP and OD&E are working on TELA-NID electronic dissemination system. DDI will study the system. Mock-up should be completed this fall. should be in their temporary location on the sixth floor by 12 May. The seventh floor area should be completed by 15 August. ALA will meet with Nestor Sanchez, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, to discuss his recent trip to Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. EURA will host a conference on econometric analysis of East European economies. Briefings There were 7 briefings on the Hill this past week.
