ACIS briefed Congressional Committees, Congressmen
on the President's report to the Congress on
Of Special Interest This Week
ALA and NIO/LA briefed House Foreign Affairs, HPSCI, Oliver
North of the NSC, and Ambassador Motley on developments in
Central America.
ALA participated in an interagency briefing for
Congressional staffers on Mozambique.
EURA briefed Assistant Secretary Phillips, Commerce, on
Yugoslavia's interest in Soviet nuclear reactors.
OEA briefed David Laux, NSC, on Sino-Soviet and US-China
relations.
NESA briefed the Senate Select Committee on intelligence
regarding Afghanistan.
OGI briefed Dr. Lyle Schwartz, Director of the Center for
Materials Science of the National Bureau of Standards, on
advanced materials developments in the Free World.

OGI sponsored a seminar, "Soviet Active Measures: Do They
Matter?"
OGI briefed the Working Group on Supercomputers (Federal
Coordinating Council on Science, Engineering and Technology)
OSWR briefed Richard L. Armitage, Assistant Secretary of
Defense for International Security Affairs, Douglas Feith, Deputy
Assistant Secretary of Defense for Negotiations Policy, and James
Kelly, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia and
Pacific Affairs on the North Korean nuclear program.
Looking Ahead
ALA officers will discuss developments in Colombia and
Argentina
NESA will brief Assistant Secretary of Defense Richard
Armitage and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Stephen Bryant
on technology transfer to Iraq.
NESA will brief on Iranian involvement in terrorism at a
seminar sponsored by NI0/Counterterrorism.
