SUBJECT: DDI Activity Report 13 - 17 May 1985
DCI/DDCI Assigned Tasks
ACIS and OSWR prepared a response to Secretary Weinberger on
Soviet nuclear testing.
EURA prepared talking points on post-Summit trade strategy
for the DCI's participation in an EPC meeting.
OGI prepared a memo on DI narcotics support to policy and
law enforcement agencies over FY 84-85 for use in DCI's briefing
the new Drug Policy Board.
Of Special Interest This Week
ALA briefed DAS of Defense Nestor Sanchez about developments
in Central America.
ALA prepared talking points for Ollie North, of the NSC, on
Sandinista actions since the Congressional vote.
ALA briefed senior staff aids for the House Foreign Affairs
Committee on political and economic developments in South Africa.
In response to questions raised by Vice President Bush, EURA
prepared a typescript describing how the Italian Parliament
elects a President.

EURA briefed the following Ambassadors: John Scanlan, the
new Ambassador to Belgrade, Ambassador designate Gerard to
Luxembourg, and the Ambassadors to Sweden and Bulgaria; as well
as debriefing the Ambassador to Romania.
OSWR briefed Assistant Secretary of Defense for
International Security Policy, Richard Perle, on the Soviet
program to acquire Western technology.
ACIS, OSWR and SOVA met with Ambassador Kampelman to discuss
Soviet approaches to the next round of Nuclear and Space Talks.
SOVA briefed Ambassador Tower of ACDA and his staff on the
influence of economic factors on Soviet arms control decision
making.
SOVA prepared a typescript memorandum for senior arms
control policy group at MacFarlane's request.
Looking Ahead
OEA will brief Ambassador Harry Thayer, Director of
AIT/Taipei on politics in Taiwan.
OGI will brief a subcommittee of the House Appropriations
Committee on Latin American narcotics production and trafficking.
