Weekly Report
2. As a result of recent discussions between the Directors
of the Offices of Communications (OC) and Information Technology
(OIT), the first joint OC/OIT Planning Conference has been
scheduled for October. The purpose of the conference is to
allow senior managers the opportunity to address major issues
confronting the two Offices.

10. In response to recruitment advertising in Michigan,
Indiana, and Ohio, over 100 resumes have been received each
day for review and processing by OC.
12. A pilot program for the OC Satellite Operations Course
using Accelerated Learning Techniques (AL) was completed on
18 July. Because of AL, a reduction of 32.5 percent instruction
time was achieved. Consequently, all future Satellite Operations
Courses will be scheduled for three weeks vice four weeks using
the new AL system.

SUBJECT: Weekly Report
13. MERCURY Program:
a. The contractor has completed the new software
build for the four packet switch nodes, the Network Control
Processor, the Network Operator's Console, and the Packet
Assembler/Disassembler. All Factory Acceptance Tests have
been rerun with the new software and the software has now
been placed under configuration management control. Formal
acceptance testing will commence on 28 July.
b. OC representatives met on
25 July to discuss actions to be taKen prior to tne start of
live traffic testing via the MERCURY packet switch. A check
list of actions was identified and documented.
c. The D/CO presented an OC capabilities briefing to
the President of M/A-COM Digital Communications Corporation
(DCC) and several members of his staff on 24 July. The
purpose of the briefing was to provide DCC with a better
understanding of the communications requirements that the
MERCURY packet switching system will be serving. During the
discussion following the D/CO's presentation, the contractor
offered to provide the Agency with a technology update on
satellite communications services that are commercially
available. His offer was accepted.
