Weekly Staff Notes, 15 - 21 November 1987
1. General:

a. in coordination
with members of the
Engineering Division's standards group,
arranged for
Mr. Jerry Mulvenna from the National Bureau of Standards
(NBS), to address the DCO's monthly staff meeting on
16 November. Mr. Mulvenna, Manager of the Network
Applications Group at the NBS Institute for Computer Science
and Technology (ICST), briefed on the International
Standards Organization model for Open Systems
Interconnection (OSI) and described the function of the NBS
in bringing about implementation of Government Open Systems
Interconnection Profile (GOSIP) as a federal information
processing standard. GOSIP is dedicated to reducing
technical barriers to interoperability among government
information systems and improving the availability of
commercial off-the-shelf technology.
25X1 b. On 17 November, Messrs.
attended the Directorate of Administration (DA) ADP Users
Group meeting in the DA Conference Room. Special Assistant
25X1 to the DDA, spoke to the group concerning
its charter, wnicn is to identify and analyze ADP problems
and pass along recommendations on how ADP services could be
better utilized. Also discussed at this session was the
impending elimination of both RAMIS and GIMS from the family
of OIT data base systems.

SUBJECT: OC-MPB Weekly Staff Notes, 15 - 21 November 1987
d. received a Certificate of
Exceptional Accomplishment and a $500.00 cash award during
the MLS weekly staff meeting on 20 November. The award,
which was presented by Deputy Chief,
Administrative Management Division, was in recognition of
management of the project for Accelerated Core
Training during his tour at the Communications School.
e. On 19 November, attended
the overseas posts briefing portion of the Overseas
Orientation Program (00P) at the Communications School.
spoke to the students of Basic
Telecommunications Class 4-87 and their spouses concerning
posts in the ASCA area. After the briefings, was
elevated to the Position of Ambassador as he presi e over a
cocktail party

b. On 18 November, participated in the
third and final meeting of the Automated HF Radio Statement
of Requirements Working Group (SORWG) at the Computer

SUBJECT: OC-MPB Weekly Staff Notes, 15 - 21 November 1987
Sciences Corporation of Falls Church, Virginia. The final
draft Statement of Requirement (SOR) and Action Plan for the
development of a family of federal standards for automated
high frequency radio were completed at this meeting, and the
resulting documents will now be forwarded to the Federal
Telecommunications Standards Committee (FTSC) for action.
attended the DOLPHIN
meeting at Headquarters on 17 November. The
chairman announced that the DDT was behind in the completion
of the task plan. The next meeting on 24 November will be
an extended meeting.
