attended Government Open Systems
Interconnection
Profile
(GOSIP) meetings on 9 and
10 September at the National Bureau of Standards in
Gaithersburg, Maryland. Briefing officials from Boeing
Computer Services, Corporation for Open Systems, General
Motors, International Standards Organization, and the Office
of the Assistant Secretary of Defense pointed out that Open
Systems Interconnection (OSI) computer standards are in the
final stages of development and now may be the best time for
federal agencies to begin developing migration strategies to
the open systems architecture. Enormous cost savings are
expected to result when the government begins purchasing
computer networking products built to the emerging OSI
specifications.

SUBJECT: OC-MPB Weekly Staff Notes, 6 - 12 September 1987
b. attended the DOLPHIN meeting held at
Headquarters on 8 September. A binder notebook containing
DOLPHIN information was received and is currently being
routed to OC divisions.
c. On 9 September,
attended the bimonthly IRAC meeting held at the Chamber ot
Commerce building in Washington, D.C. The meeting lasted
3 1/2 hours, during which time 17 agenda items covering a
wide range of spectrum issues were discussed.
