4. On 15 July OTE and the Directorate of Intelligence jointly sponsored
a one-day Symposium on Assessing Military Force Balances. The symposium
focused on new analytical methodologies for estimating military strength.
Some 70 participants from all directorates, the State Department, Defense
Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency attended the program.

9. The Office of Medical Services briefed over 500 Directorate of
Science and Technology managers on medical services available to assist
troubled employees and described how managers could use them effectively to
retain valuable employees. The presentation was part of a joint briefing on
personnel support services by the offices of Security, Medical Services and
Personnel.
10. Office of Personnel (OP) representatives were among 16,000 people who
attended the Annual National Association for Advancement of Colored People
Convention in Washington. Guest speakers included Vice President Bush,
Reverend Jesse Jackson, and Governor Michael Dukakis. Information on the
Agency's scholar program was distributed and 20 resumes were received.
11. OP reports.that~employees switched to the Federal Employees
Retirement System (FERS) during the two special transfer periods.
