Department on Tuesday re- leased records showing that Barbie entered the United States four times i 1969-70 on an official Bolivian Allan A. Ryan Jr., head of then cjepartment's efforts to find and de- port former Nazislfrom _the: U.S.;.. said the purpose of the investigation would be to set. forth the facts of any relationship between Barbie and the U.S. government from 1946 on, and as much as possible, release, those to the public." A GESTAPO leader in France in World War, II, fled to Bolivia in 1951. Bolivia sent him back to France last month, and he is awaiting trial there now. French courts have convicted him twice of war crimes in absentia. . The Justice Department released Immigration and Naturalization Ser- vice records which showed that Bar- bie entered the U.S. under the name of Klaus Altmann at Miami on July - 5 and 29, 1969, and twice on Jan. 21, 1970. The records showed that he left July 27, 1969, Jan. 21, 1970, and Feb. 8, 1970. , - Ryan could not explain why the records showed one more entry than departure. On the records Barbie acknowledg- ed that he was born in Berlin on Oct. '25, 1915.
