A US attorney accused the Justice
Department of blocking attempts to
prosecute Mexico's former federal se-
curity chief for his alleged part in a $30
million luxury car. theft ring.

Agency regarded Miguel Nassar Haro
as an "indispensable" source of Intel-
ligence on Mexico and Central Amer-
ica.
Mr. Nassar Haro, who resigned in

Direccion Federal de Seguridad, the
country's equivalent of a combined . i
FBI-CIA, is one of 29 persons indicted
last July in connection with a stolen
car ring which allegedly stole 4,000
cars worth an estimated $30 million.
