Edgars Laipenieks, a former Olympic coach and ~CI~--_informant, has filed
r:?otice of appeal of an order that he be deported of r alleged war crimes in his
native Latvia during World War II.
He was ordered deported to Chile last September~^by the Board of Immigration
~ppeal~.
Laipenieks, who coached Chile's Olympic track teams in 1952 and 1956 and the
1964 nexican track team, has denied he was involved in war crimes while serving
with the Latvian Political Police during the Nazi occupation of his homeland.
Ne said his responsibility was to track down Communists and terrorists sen t
into Latvia by the Soviet Union.
