ABC NIGHTLINE FRE any
31 May 1984
KOPPEL: Tony, very quickly, because we don't have a great deal more time, do
you have any sense of who might, I mean, who, who are his most logical enemies?
Who would most likely have done this? AVIRGAN: Well, at the moment, Commander
Pastora has enemies both on the left and the right. Of course, the Nicaraguan
government is unhappy about his guerrilla activities. But a, a more likely
place to look would be on the right, because the CIA and rightist forces in his
own coalition want very much for him to unite with the Honduran-based rebels.
But Commander Pastora is refusing to do this, and he is facing a lot of
opposition to this, and possibly some of these people thought it best to get him
out of the way, uh, so that the way would be clear for unity.
