Fred Rose, a Canadian Jailed
As.Soviet Spy, Dies in Poland
WARSAW, March 17 (AP) - Fred
Rose, a Communist member of the
Canadian parliament who,' was con-
victedof spying for Moscow,'has died in
a Warsaw hospital, his wife said today.
Hewas78yearsold.
Doctors did not disclose the cause of
Mr. Rose's death Wednesday, a family
friend in Montreal said, and his widow
and daughter have not decided whether
he will be buried in Canada or in Po-
land, where he was born Fred Rosen.

Mr. Rose was arrested in March 1948:
and sentenced to six years in prison for
his espionage activities, which included
reporting to Moscow on a secret war-
time session of the Canadian Parlia-
ment in. 1844. He automatically lost his
seat in Parliament when convicted..
He left Canada after serving four and
a half years of his sentence, moving to
Czechoslovakia and later to Poland. His
Canadian citizenship. was revoked in
1957.
