'Infrequently, but when national interests abroad are juged by the
President absolutely to require it, the clandestine service unit
responsible for espionage ought to be tasked to operate in foreign
countries to influence opinion, political allegiances, or alter the
course of events'.
Ray S. C I i n e 'The United States in 1980's', Hoover Institution
on War, Revolution, and Peace, Stanford 1980, p. 489.
Alarmed by the growing opposition in Europe to the deployment of new
U.S. missiles, the Reagan administration has mounted a new effort to
implement its nuclear policy.
Strict secrecy on related clandestine operations could not prevent
information leaking from the services themselves.
Sources confirm:
Though specialists - like George B u s h and William C a s e y, the
former and present directors of the CIA, respectively, - are holding
key positions in decision making bodies, the political establishment's
handling of the intelligence community has not become more professional.
Irresponsible CIA operations are jeopardizing to the utmost the
infrastructures of the United States and other nations.
In fact, our European partners do feel the same way. They are embarrassed
to learn that mass media structures are increasingly controlled to serve
U.S. administration objectives. It is not independent and objective
journalism that counts, it is strict commitment and unconditional sub-
ordination to geopolitical aspects of the anti-Soviet U.S. strategy.
The CIA wants to keep invisible its well devised media controlling system.
The European issue of CIA-Insider contributes to lift the veil.
