Aftermath of Libya Raids
PETER JENNINGS: One of the
reasons there's been specula-
tion about Colonel. Qadclafi's
well-being has to do with the
state of general confusion that
many analysts outside the
country believe was created in
Libya by Monday's attack. So
now that he's made an appear-
ance, there is another ques-
tion: Is :ie firmly in charge?
Here's our national security
cups-e_-j4 en__t~John Mc'Wethy.
JOHN MCWETHY? U.S. intelli-

And despite his TV
appearance tonight, there are
still questions about whether

Despite signs o some c aos
in the ranks, U.S. intelligence
sources say there is no
indication that any particular
group is moving to seize power.
Not yet, anvwav.
gut there are nany potential
candidates. There have been
several dozen attempts to
a-;:3assinate Qaddafi over the
last five years, with the last
one in November.
HENRY SCHULER: Qaddafi has
alienated just about every
interest grouo you can think of
in Libya.
MCWETHY: In a neighboring
country, Sudan, last night, a
J.S. Embassy employee was shot
in the head. Though U.S.
official-3 say there is no
direct link to Libya, only
suspicions, some American
Embassy personnel are being
pulled out of that country.
Intelligence sources say the
American and British Embassies
in K'iartuum Sudan have been
under surveillance by Libyan
agents for several weeks.
