Israel's Foreign Ministry
identified the slain man as
Albert Atrakchi, 30, an ad-
ministrative attache. His
wife, Ilana, 24, and Mazal
Menashe, 22, underwent
surgery for bullet wounds.
Egypt's Interior Ministry
said Menashe was the diplo-
mat's secretary.
One woman was wounded
in the leg and the other was
hit in the arms and face, said
a spokesman for the Israeli
Embassy. The Israeli For-
eign Ministry said Mrs.
Atrakchir also an .embassy

Egypt has played a key
role in trying to arrange
Arab-Israeli dialogue involy-
ing Jordan and the Palestin-
ians. The attack also came as
Israeli Prime Minister Shi-
mon Peres said he hoped to
set up a summit with Egypt's
President Hosni Mubarak
A group calling itself
Egypt's Revolution, which
also said it was behind the
1984 shooting of an Israeli
diplomat in Cairo, took re-
sponsibility for the ambush
in a Letter to a Western news
agency.

IN JUNE 1984, Israeli
Embassy attache Zvi Kedar
was wounded in the hand by
a shot fired from a passing
car. There were no arrests in
that shooting.
Yesterday's attack took
place in Maadi, an upper-
class suburb 10 miles south
of Cairo, where many foreign
diplomats and representa-
tives of foreign companies
live.
The Egyptian Interior
Ministry said Atrakchi, who
had been posted in Cairo for
three months, "was not
among those persons for
whom the Israeli Embassy
had requested an Egyptian
security escort:" It said
Egyptian authorities had
taken additional security
measures after the incident.
Investigators found 17
shell casings from a sub-
machine gun that had been
fired at the Israeli car,
according to a Foreign
Ministry official.
"We very strongly con-
demn this criminal act," an
Egyptian Foreign Ministry
spokesman said. "Egyptian
authorities will take all legal
steps to track down the per-
petrators and bring them to
trial."
He said Foreign Minister
Esmat Abdul-Meguid sent a
message of condolence to
