SUBJECT: HPSCI Briefing on the Soviet Union

1. On Tuesday 'l'9-.-June in room H-405 the Capitol the House
Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Subcommittee on
Oversight and Evaluation received a briefing on key
intelligence questions involving the Soviet Union. The
briefers, Larry Gershwin NIO/SP and Asst.
NIO/USSR, also discussed national intelligence resources
employed to answer these questions and the policymakers degree
of satisfaction with the end product. A transcript of the
session was prepared

the crucial questions involve Gorbac ev s intentions--where he
