SUBJECT: Briefing for GAO on Guatemala
1. On 1 August 1984, GAO staffers Frederick Barrett and
Edward Kennedy were briefed on the nt situation in
Guatemala by DI/ALA analyst The briefing
centered on Guatemala's efforts to quell its insurgency
problem and its apparent greater regard for human rights.
The staffers also sought information about the army's needs
for military equipment and its sources of arms supply.
The staffers were directed to seek details about
Guatemala's arms inventory from 7&e___De- rtment of Defense.
There are no follow-up matters.
