On 22 June 1984, HPSCI staff members were briefed at the request of Leon Fuerth on assorted questions related to Soviet weapons systems and US monitoring capabilities. HPSCI staff members in attendance included Tom Latimer, Leon Fuerth, Mike O'Neil, Steven Berry, Bernie Raimo, and Da Addington. The briefers included (C/ACIS), (OSW (NSA) , (NSA), and R) , (OSWR) , NSA me briefing was at the SI/TK/Gamma level. No transcript was taken. 2. Leon Fuerth asked a number of questions, most of them arising from Congressional concerns related to proposed legislation. The first topic discussed was Soviet production of sea-launched cruise missiles and the extent of US knowledge about the weapons system. xplained that there were differences within the Intelligence Committee over whether the Soviets have deployed the SSMX-21 and whether testing of it is completed. The discussion also covered the question of whether it will be possible to determine if the missile is nuclear armed. The second topic involved Soviet anti-satellite weapons, including existing Soviet capabilities and US monitoring activity. Directed energy and space mines were also discussed. The third subject dealt with the substance of several recent articles in the Washington Times reporting Soviet efforts to jam US (U) 3.
