SUBJECT: HPSCI Markup of H.R. 5164
1. The full House Permanent Select Committee on
Intelligence (HPSCI) met this morning and unanimously approved
H.R. 5164. Prior to doing so, a motion was made to consider
several technical amendments to the bill en bloc and this
motion carried without objection. These technical amendments.
are attached for your information. The unanimous approval of
H.R. 5164 was approval of the bill with these technical
amendments. All the Members of the full Committee were present
except Representatives Mineta (D.,CA) and Young (R.,FL).
2. A hearing has been tentatively scheduled on the bill for
26 April in the House Government Operations Subcommittee on
Government Information, Justice, and Agriculture, chaired by
Representative Glenn English (D.,OK). Subcommittee staff hope
to have the bill reported out of the Subcommittee in time for
it to be considered at the next full Government Operations
Committee meeting,. which is now scheduled to be held on 8 May.
There appears to be agreement between HPSCI and Government
Operations that once the bill is reported out of Government
Operations the bill should be brought up for House
consideration under suspension of the rules.
