MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD

SUBJECT: Briefing for HFAC Staffers on Spain, Portugal,
Greece, and Turkey
1. On 26 September 1986, the Agency representatives listed
below briefed HFAC staffers Mike Van Dusen, Chris Kojm, No
Spalatin, and Hillel Weinberg. The briefing covered political,
economic, and military conditions in Greece, Turkey, Spain, and
Portugal. The briefing took lace at CIA HQs between 1345 and
1630 and was conducted at the7 level.
2. The following Agency personnel were present:
all DI/EURA
3. The HFAC staffers involved in this briefing are to
travel to Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Turkey later this fall,
and received a general survey of political and economic
conditions in each of these four countries. Of special
interest to them was the status of negotiations concerning US
base rights in these countries, and information pertaining to
US aid to each. No operational matters were discussed.
5. No problems or unusual situations arose during the
course of the briefing.
