SUBJECT: Items for DDCI Cable
According to Chip Andreae, the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee will investigate allegations of drug trafficking by
the contras. The investigation will be launched following the
November elections and is being conducted at the urging of
Senator John Kerry (D., MA). The Commitee has empowered its
staff to take depositions from 14 US citizens and foreign
nationals allegedly implicated in drug trafficking. The
Committee will not release the names. Subpoenas can be issued
in cases where information is being withheld after polling
members of the Foreign Relations Committee; a majority vote is
required.
