RE: Speaking Invitation
Business-Government Relations Council
Hilton Head
24 - 27 September 1987
Last February you tentatively accepted an invitation from Rae Evans to
speak before the Business-Government Relations Council at Hilton Head on
Saturday, September 26th at 10:45 a.m. The topic of the annual meeting is
"American Leadership at Home and Abroad--The Bicentennial Challenge." I have
now received the full agenda which shows you as a member of a panel on
"Leadership--Ethical Dilemmas" moderated by Professor Charles Nesson of
Harvard School of Law (see agenda opposite). While the panel is made of high
caliber participants and acceptances have been received from Senators Nunn and
Hollings and Congressmen Dingell and Cheney, I would prefer that you be a
featured speaker for an organization like this. Unless you have committed
yourself to Rae, I recommend that you reconsider your acceptance, since you
will not be a main speaker and you will just be returning from the Middle
East. If you agree, I have attached a letter of regrets.

Dear Judge:
Pull out your calendar and be sure to mark down the
September 24-27, 1987 dates for the Business-Government
Relations Council annual meeting at the Hotel Inter-
Continental on Hilton Head Island. Yours truly, as you
know, is Vice President of the organization, and I am
responsible for planning the annual meeting. I've attached
a copy of the membership directory of B-GRC to give you a
better idea of the group's make-up.
Our tentative theme is "American Leadership at Home
and Abroad -- the Bicentennial Challenge." We have invited
a number of your pals and mine to join us for the two
sessions. When we get a little closer to the event, we can
go over topics of interest for your participation.
Remember, you absolutely, positively have to come, so
don't make any plans to go to Bora Bora in the meantime. In
fact, why don't you see if my pal, Drudie, can join you.
She would enjoy the tennis, the weather, and the hotel a lot
more than Chicago!
Talk to you soon.

Per our conversation, enclosed are Rae Evan's
original letter inviting Judge Webster to the Business-
Government Relations Council annual meeting and a copy of
the program agenda (still in draft form). I've also
enclosed a membership directory for your information.
As you know the meeting will be?.held September 24-27,
1987, at the Hotel Inter-Continental on Hilton Head Island.
It is planned that Judge Webster will take part in the large
panel session on Saturday morning with other distinguished
guests. Some of these confirmed guests include Senator Sam
Nunn, Senator Ernest Hollings, Congressman John Dingell, and
Congressman Dick Cheney, among others.
As we draw closer to the meeting date, I will need
some additional details on Judge Webster's length of stay,
transportation and security needs, etc. Please do not
hesitate to give me a call if I can be of further assistance
or answer any questions.
