DATE _ 17 October 1986 TO: (Officer designation, room number, and building) DATE OFFICER'S COMMENTS (Number ?ach comment to show from whom REC.EIVED FORWARDED INITIALS to whom. Draw a line across column after each comment.) 1. Director of Training and Education Room 1026, C of C Stan-- This is to confirm our conver- . sation yesterday morning so I don't forget about it. I mentioned two things at the time. First, would ? you consider, on a confidential basis, the impact of assuming all the ADP training presently done . in OIT. I'll be asking my people to evaluate our continued participation as an ADP training organization 5. .--p_p4--egin shortly but I would like you to to look at the problem. Secondly, I would like to have your ? thoughts, perhaps more formally than yesterday, on the idea of bringing in a university, under con- ? tract, to take over all ADP/computer training in the Agency. The idea behind this is that, assuming the 8. contracted university would bring the course curriculum up to their standards, we could afford each ? participant the opportunity to receive some kind of college credit for attending. We spend a lot of 10. money each year, both internally and externally, on computer training, and while the intent here isn't 11. necessarily to save money, it seems to me the idea of receiving college credit be an added incentive/ 12. Tight benefit for our employees. 12. 14. = 15. I don't disagree and encourage the efforts under way to find him a challenging position that affords him the management potential that everyone believes he has. STAT As we approach the point at which would move on from Training, I would like us to reexamine, on a fundamental level, our role in the training area. Is that a business that we still need to be in? It seems to me that historically we have had considerable difficulty filling the instructor positions because the Group Chiefs don't feel that training is fundamental to OIT's business. At least that is the conclusion I reach. I would like to have your thoughts by way of a short report when I return from my TDY in November. ?
