Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/08/17: CIA-RDP90G00993R000300060002-6 SUBJECT: Ed: OIT.PublidatiOn For whatever it worth, I would feel more comfortable if your new OIT publication were stamped at least Administrative - Internal Use Only. I know that the technical information it contains is readily available from open sources but the publication also provides the reader with a pretty clear idea of what direction this Agency is taking in terms of ADP. I must say that the publication is a neat piece of work which I have found most informative. -STAT Att STAT ? "A well written document that flaws from topic to topic in a very logical manner. Only in a couple of areas did it assume a little more knowledge than most users have." 2. "I liked the question and answer approach." 3. "I think OIT should be complemented on this effort. It provides the reader with a lot of information that is relevant, and it makes it appear that OIT has actually thought things out, something many people accuse them of not doing." 4. "I think the new publication is an excellent idea. It attempts to take the mystery out of what is going on and conveys the thought that there really is some organized direction/planning concerning some of the many developments the Agency is experiencing in the ADP world. The topics selected for the first issue were very good choices. The publication did a good job of explaining these topics in a relatively non-technical fashion so that it should be readily understood. Well done." I think the first issue is a major step forward in getting people informed about major developments. My guess is that OIR people would even like to see Directions published more frequently than quarterly. STAT FROM THE DESK OF . . ? ED MALONEY DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 1 2 MAY 1987 NOTE FOR: Deputy Director for Administration SUBJECT: OIT Directions Bill: I am pleased to share with you this first issue of OIT Directions. OIT Directions is a new quarterly publication intended to keep our customers informed about significant new developments in the office, major projects, and our strategic directions and plans. This first issue outlines the process whereby OIT is setting new directions for information processing within the Agency, and discusses, in some depth, our plans for transitioning from the existing network of Delta Data and other non-standard terminals toward a more standard environment of 3270 protocol devices, including personal computers. Future issues have already been planned to discuss the OIT Information Systems Architecture program, our Data Base Strategic Plan, and the Corporate Data Program. I hope you will find this information useful, and welcome comments and suggestions for topics for future issues. VO4.es also ,s6,11- 41) : ADD/9 jotcfrJP. : F711bMI.T C Dicomet.
