Maloney Director, of Information Technology - SUBJECT: IG Survey of the Office of Information Services REFERENCE: Your Memo, dtd 6 Aug 87, Same Subject Bill: I. I have read the IG report as you requested and generally agree with their perspective as laid out in that report and with the suggestions on page 47 through 49 relevant to OIT. I thought I would take the time to jot down a few notes to you, bringing you up to 'speed on some of the actions, either already taken or literally on the eve of change. Finally, it is important that you know that I understand the dimensions of the organizational change that occurred in March. As we have often discussed, the kind of changes that involve cultural adjustments always seem to be the tougher ones to implement. However, I think the OIT team is increasingly becoming aware of the gigantic responsibilities with which it has been challenged and that we are trying to get on with it. Donnelly Deputy Director for Administration' IG Survey of the Office of Information Services 1. The final version of the Inspector General (IG) survey of the Office of Information Services is attached for your review. Overall, I think the IG inspection team made a fair and professional assessment. response to the report, in the Components Response section, provides an appropriate counterpoint. The Executive Director's comments on this report are indicated at the paperclips. I am interested in your reactions to this report. 2. Unlike the typical IG survey, this one does not offer any formal recommendations. However, it makes a few suggestions on pages 47-49. I agree generally with these suggestions. In particular, I plan to merge CRD and IPD later this year to centralize the classification review functions for senior MI personnel in key positions. 3. Please read this report and forward it quickly. I would welcome your oral or written thoughts on it. William F.
