Many thanks for your informative presentation on the work
of the Fleet Ocean Surveillance Information Center. While my
time at your facility was limited, I nonetheless came away with
a good appreciation for the type and complexity of issues with
which your organization. deals. I was particularly impressed'by
your efforts to integrate all-source intelligence into your

Again, many thanks for your assistance, and all the best
to you and the men and women working in your center.

Captain Robert T. Trafton, U. S. Navy
Commanding Officer `
Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center
Building 420, Dam Neck
Virginia Beach, Virginia 93461-5575
Dear Captain Trafton:
In a relatively short period of time, you provided me with
an enormously illuminating and interesting overview of the
Training Center. I have long considered the quality of
training to be the key to the future of our mission, and I was
delighted to see that you have put both punch and quality into
the Navy/Marine Corps program.
After a long day of briefings in other Norfolk facilities,
I was particularly pleased that you gave me an opportunity to
visit with the men and women actually undergoing training. I
was impressed by their grasp of the issues and the quality of
the trainees, and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
Many thanks and all the best,
Sincerely,

Captain Hugh D. Wisely, U. S. Navy
Commanding Officer
USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67)
Norfolk, Virginia 23511-5100
Dear Captain Wisely:
Both of my visits to the KENNEDY have been extremely
interesting and informative. My first visit was during the
Statue of Liberty celebration in New York City, and my focus
was on counterterrorist preparations. With my visit at
Norfolk, I gained a much greater understanding of the
tremendously important role played by the KENNEDY in
intelligence collection. I had not realized before how many
men and how much equipment have been dedicated to the important
assignments that aid the entire Intelligence Community. It was
a very interesting briefing, and I appreciate all the time that
you were able to spend with me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I
am most grateful.
With warm best wishes to you, your officers and men,
Sincerely,

Many thanks for hosting such a pleasant lunch during my
visit to Norfolk. I saw Admiral Baggett here in Washington
earlier this week and told him how much I enjoyed the visit and
how helpful everyone had been to me.
Your officers gave me an excellent view of. the usages of
tactical intelligence as well as the collection of strategic
intelligence, and I came away enormously impressed at how well
this is done under often the most difficult of circumstances.
I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to see the training
going on at Dam Neck.
Many thanks to you and to those under your command who
provided such a well coordinated and informative briefing for
me.
With warm best wishes,
Sincerely,
William H. Webster

Dear Captain McMunn:
The handsome coaster which you gave me as we left Norfolk
sits on my desk as a permanent reminder of a most interesting

all that you are doing to contribute to the Intelligence
Community as a whole.
Many thanks for a very pleasant day.

Many thanks for spending the day with me at Norfolk. It
was an extraordinarily interesting and informative visit and
the arrangements could not have been better planned or more
pleasant. I know that this is a particularly busy time for you
as you move to your new assignment, and I am all the more
appreciative that you were willing to give over the day to my
education and understanding of the naval intelligence mission.
With best wishes and many thanks again,

Dear Admiral Cooper:
Many thanks for providing such an interesting visit to the
MINNEAPOLIS-SAINT PAUL. I think sometimes those of us in the
Intelligence Community overlook the difficult and challenging
circumstances under which intelligence is collected by those at
sea. Commander Metzger certainly added to my understanding in
a tight schedule and in tight space. My admiration is
unbounded.

Sincerely,
