It has been a year since Charlie Neuhauser passed.away. At the time, we
were moved to write the attached in memory of our brother and friend.
In the interim, we have made arrangements with the John K. Fairbank Center
for East Asian Research to establish an annual short-term visiting
lectureship in his name. This has been arranged through the good efforts of
Professor Roderick MacFarquhar, a close friend of Charlie and director of the
center.
The visiting lecturer will be drawn from the ranks of government, and his
or her involvement at Harvard.will serve a purpose dear to Charlie's heart:
to maintain bridges between the world of government, policy, and the
intelligence community and the university world.
We now invite you to contribute to this fund, so that its founding can be
announced on this first anniversary of Charlie's death. We are pleased to
-announce that the Neuhauser family has made a generous contribution to the
Charles Neuhauser lectureship, but your contributions are needed to assure
the success of this endeavor. Please forward your check, made out to the
John Fairbank Center for East Asian Research with purpose specified, to
