Dear Fred:
I was delighted to receive your letter of April 11th. You
have both eased my conscience and gained ground with the
selection of Judge Arnold to be your graduation speaker.
Richard is both a brilliant jurist and a man of great personal
character and charm, and I know he will do you great justice.
Warm regards and best wishes always,
Sincerely,
William H. Webster

Dear Judge Webster:
You may be interested to know that one of your distinguished successors on the
Eighth Circuit, Judge Richard Arnold, has agreed to be our graduation speaker this
year.
As you know, Judge Arnold has a distinguished record on the Bench and is an
outstanding legal scholar. We are delighted that he will be able to be with us.
You may also be interested to know that when I told Judge Arnold that he was
our second choice, he opined that, in the light of the identity of our first choice, he
considered being "second choice" a great honor.
Again, all best wishes, and please be assured of our confidence in you, and any
support you may need in the important responsibilities which you have assumed.
