D. C. 20505 The Honorable Nicholas A. Veliotes President Association of American Publishers, Inc. 2005 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20036 Dear Ambassador Veliotes: 02 MAR 1988 I appreciate your invitation to address the Association of American Publishers annual meeting in Palm Beach March 20-22 or at one of your Board meetings. Although it would please me very much to speak to your group, I am unable to make a firm commitment at this time. My spring schedule is hectic, but perhaps you will consider asking-me again some time in the future. Best wishes for a successful program. Sincerely yours, Is/ William H. Webster William H. Veliotes, has invited you to be the keynote speaker either Sunday, 20 March, or Monday, 21 March, at their annual meeting in Palm Beach. The suggested format is 20 minutes of remarks on a topic of your choice and 10 minutes of questions and answers. You could expect an audience of 150-200 CEOs in the publishing business representing such companies as Random House, McGraw-Hill, and Harper & Row. (See opposite for brochure and membership list.) As an alternative, the organization also has invited you to address one of their Board of Directors meetings in Washington sometime in April or May. The Board includes 20 CEO's from the general trade, educational, and technical publishing houses. Since you are already scheduled to speak to-the-Anti-Defamation League on March 22nd and the American Business Council March 23rd, I recommend that you decline the invitation to address the AAP's annual meeting on March 21st. The months of April and May -- when you might address the Board of Directors -- are also heavily committed, and board meetings of 20 are a small audience. If you agree, please sign the attached letter.
