RE: Speaking Invitation
Delaware State Bar Association Law Day
Hotel DuPont
Wilmington, Delaware
29 April 1988
On behalf of. the Delaware Bar Association, Kent A. Jordan, has invited you
to be the guest speaker at the Delaware State Bar Association's Law Day
luncheon on Friday, 29 April in Wilmington,: Delaware. According to f~lr. Kent
this is the second time the Bar Association has invited you to speak at an
event. Although our records do not show other invitations from the Delaware
Bar Association, Mr. Kent mentions a previous invitation in his letter. Since
you are already committed for that date to speak at the Law Day in St. Louis,
I have attached a letter of regret.

Dear Mr. Jordan:
Thank you for your kind invitation to address the Delaware Bar Association
Law Day luncheon on April 29th. Unfortunately, I will not be able to speak to
the group on that date because I have another commitment. It was good of you
to ask me again, and I appreciate your favorable comments concerning my years
of public service.
Best wishes for a successful program. Please give my regards to your
members.
Sincerely yours,

Dear Judge Webster:
By Presidential Proclamation and a Joint Resolution of
Congress, May first of each year is celebrated as Law Day U.S.A.,
a time for Americans to reflect on their liberties and rededicate
themselves to the ideals of equality and justice under law.
In the State of Delaware, Law Day is highlighted by the
annual Bar Association luncheon and awards ceremony. The Bar
Association endeavors each year to bring to the State an indi-
vidual of importance in the preservation of liberty to make some
remarks at the law day luncheon. You may recall that last year
we sought your attendance at the luncheon, but you were unable to
come. On the hope that we may have better fortune this year, I
write on behalf of the Delaware State Bar Association to invite
you to make the annual Law Day address to the Association and its
guests and honorees on Friday, April 29, at the-Hotel DuPont in
Wilmington, Delaware.
I have read about and been told by my father, Amos (Joe)
Jordan of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, of
your impressive history of public service. You have the unique
perspective of having seen the American system of justice operate
at both .the investigative and judicial levels and of seeing
American legal values affect both the national and international
arenas. If you would be willing and able to share some of your
insights with us, the membership of the Bar would be truly
grateful. Should you accept our offer, we will, of course, pay
